History

Magic is a strange thing. Magic can cause strange mystical births, mutations and all sorts of odd things to organic life but perhaps the strangest thing magic can do is what it can do to inanimate things.
Long ago there once was a carnival. This carnival was the heart of the children in the town which it rested in and there was not one child who did not at some point in their lives ride the carousel. Every carnival must have a carousel as its heart and this one was no exception. The little kids would ride on it and as the big kids passed knowing that they had long ago aged out riding those magnificent beasts chasing those in front of them in a great never ending circle, they remembered the joy of it and how it could never compare to the thriller rides they now stood in line for. And this simple everyday magic continued for years and years but as with all things it could not last forever. The owner in time grew old as did his own children who stood to one day inherit the carnival and the magic in the man's children's hearts grew old and stale and with the man's death so came the carnivals death. But even the legal death of the carnival could not kill it for the children. The fantasy still held strong for those who had known the carnival in its living days and they still would often visit it. It became the 'secret' social grounds for those between the ages of 3 to 19. And as such the carousel was not forgotten by those who would visit the abandoned amusement park. Instead of forgetting they would come and care for what they could of the park. By then each beast that stood upon it had a name but none was more loved then the gallant snow leopard Solstice with his rose collar and velvet red and gold saddle. He was the favorite carousel beast amongst the children and as such he received the bulk of their love. When times grew tough children would come to Solstice and sit on his back remembering the days of yor and telling to him their troubles. It was Solstice who protected them with dreams of childhood and held them in memories embrace. And it was the children's loved, mixed with that strange magic that seams to appear from no where, like snowmen with top hats, that kept the cat from rusting unlike the other beasts, no matter how hard the children tried to protect them. And it was this same magic and love that seemed to slowly cause his saddle to feel like velvet and his body to feel like fur. This magic mixed with love to cause a heart to beat and ears to seemingly twitch until at last when the last remaining children who remembered him grew into their own adult hoods that he became real. And though those children who loved him and gave him life grew he too had given them his own magic back and as such they never lost their childhoods as many children do. So each had given the other life in their own way. And now no longer bound, though he would never complain for he loved his duty, by the children who once used his ears to hear their troubles he became free with life to do as he pleased, and so now he does.
